LEAGUE RULES
- Your foursome is expected to complete play in 2 hours. Members of the Proshop will marshal your pace-of-play and issue your foursome a specific colored flag (see section under “Marshals”) according to your pace of play. Play ready golf! Remember - keep up with the group ahead of you and not with the foursome behind you. Speed of play is very important so that we keep within the 2-hour time frame, as our members who tee off at 3:00 p.m. need to have time to finish their play.
- If a Marshal tells you to pick up your ball and move ahead, you must do so. This will help in keeping within the time limit stated above. If you are holding up play, you must pick up your ball after you have reached your ESC (Equitable Stroke Control) maximum allowed strokes per hole and indicate this on your scorecard.
- If you do not pick up your ball, and your foursome has fallen behind, the marshal will ask your foursome to pick up their balls and move to the next hole. This would make your whole foursome ineligible for awards and prizes for the day.
- Play ready golf, repair divots, repair ball marks on the green.
- There are no whiffs, gimmes, or mulligans.
- REMEMBER golf is a game of honor. Keep your own score accurately.
- If you think your first ball is out of play or lost, a provisional ball may be hit. However, if the first ball is found, it must be played. If not found, the provisional ball will be played, and you must add an extra stroke.
- You are allowed a free drop from all rocks. NOTE: This is a local club rule NOT an AWGA rule! If your ball lands in the desert gravel or foliage, the ball must be played or you can declare the ball as unplayable with a one-stroke penalty. At Desert Springs on holes #7 and #18, a free drop from the drains is allowed.
- Drive using the 90-degree rule.
- All USGA rules apply. If there are any questions on the interpretation of the USGA rules, contact the Golf Pro.
SPEED-OF-PLAY / READY GOLF
With so many golfers in our league, the course could be filled, speed of play is VERY important. Each foursome should take no more than 15 minutes per hole, which includes looking for lost balls. This should allow everyone to be finished in approximately 2 hours. Your responsibility is to stay directly behind the group ahead of you, not stay in front of the group behind you.
SUGGESTIONS FOR SPEEDING UP PLAY
- Hit balls before you go out to play so that your muscles are ready to begin play immediately.
- Play ready golf. This means whoever is ready when they arrive at a TEE, A BALL IN THE FAIRWAY, OR ON THE GREEN goes first.
- Keep your setup routine to a minimum. Keep practice swings on the tee AND the fairway to a minimum.
- When both driver and partner’s ball are within close proximity to each other, park between the balls so that both players can be ready to hit, instead of sitting in the cart waiting for each other to finish.

PLAYING PROCEDURE / CAPTAINS
Each foursome playing in the league at both the 12:30 shotgun and 3:00 shotgun will have a Captain in the foursome. "Player 1" on the scorecard will be the designated Captain. The responsibilities of the Captain are outlined as follows, but are not limited to this outline:
- Assist the foursome to keep up the pace of play, i.e. play ready golf.
- Be familiar with the Play of the Day, and assist if there are any questions or concerns.
- Review scorecards at the end of the play, and check that everything is marked clearly and legibly, i.e. Birdies, Whammies, etc. Scores match on both the original scorecard and backup scorecard.
- Make sure that scorecards are signed.
- Make sure that the scorecards are turned in at the end of play into the appropriate drawer and appropriate box, i.e. "original" and "backup".
