HISTORY OF OUR CLUB
All lady golfers were originally under the umbrella of the Grand Ladies Golf Association, an 18-hole ladies league. In November 1998, six ladies got together to discuss the formation of a separate nine-hole ladies golf league. Those six ladies were: Connie Geil, Bernice Abrams, Raye Kent, Connie Mutton, Merline Lawrence, and Joanne Jacques. They decided to call the league the Ladies Grand Niners Golf Association, naming Connie Geil, President; Bernice Abrams, Vice-President; Raye Kent, Treasurer; and Connie Mutton, Secretary.
These ladies met with Joe Edwards, Director of Golf at Sun City Grand, to discuss the formation of a nine-hole league. He was very instrumental and helpful in getting this league started.
We were off and running and in January 1999, we were at 75 players and by May of 1999, we had already grown to 98 players. In May of 1999, Sue Richards, the President of the league at that time, started the process for us to become a chartered golf league. We officially became the “Ladies Grand Niners Golf Association” when our charter was granted on April 24, 2000.
We have continued to grow as a league with membership at 128 in 2000, 206 in 2001, 251 in 2002, 302 in 2003, 300 in 2004, 306 in 2005, 297 in 2006 and at the end of the league season May 2007 there were 317 ladies!
